Dan and I enjoyed the kick-off to the March Madness tournament last night as we watched our BYU Cougars come from behind to beat Iona. The first half was all Iona. At one point they lead by 25 points. BYU had turn-over after turn-over and the Gaels couldn't miss a shot. Half-time was about 10:30 PM and the score was 55-40. Dan was ready to head to bed. I coaxed him into staying up and watching it to the end. "What if they come back?" I asked. "Unlikely, " he said.
Well, as unlikely as it was, that's just what the Cougars did! They really slowed the pace of the game with their zone defense; they got the ball into Hartsock in the middle; and they quit making so many turn-overs. Little by little they ate away at Iona's lead and won by 6 points! 78-72. Wow! Even though I'm suffering a sleep deprivation hang-over today, I'm glad I saw the Coug's amazing comeback!

Dinner Guests from Turkey
On Sunday evening we had Dan's co-worker, Seyrim, and her parents from Turkey, over to our house for dinner. They were very kind and gracious. Even though her parents didn't speak English, we enjoyed their company and had fun hearing them plan our "future" trip to Greece and Turkey. Sydney was thrilled when Seyrim agreed to play a card game with her.
Dan asked Ethan if we had ever had guests at our house from Turkey before. Without missing a beat, he said, "Yes! For THANKSGIVING!"

Dan, Dan the Uber Handyman
Last week the kitchen sink sprung a leak. I noticed it on the top of the faucet, and then when Dan opened the cabinet underneath the sink we saw a recreation of Niagara Falls. So, Dan turned off the water and I was without a kitchen sink for a few days. At this point I really learned to appreciate that water coming out of the tap at the touch of a hand was, well, just so handy! Trying to live without the kitchen sink was interesting. I filled my teapot from the bathroom sink; we ate on paper plates and used plastic silverware; I brought the water up from the food storage room and used that to wash the plastic silverware and pots and pans.
On Thursday night Dan finally had a few hours and he began the project of replacing the sink. Nothing is ever as easy as it might seem. First he discovered he needed a specific faucet wrench. No problem. Chris Caffrey had one that he could borrow. Then he discovered the sink had been installed incorrectly and he had to saw away most of the old pipes to remove the old faucet. We made a trip to Home Depot to purchase a new faucet and luckily the installation went according to the plan. He added a little plumbers putty and sealant and {Walah!} a new faucet!
I'm grateful for my hubby whose not afraid to tackle a household project and get his hands dirty in the process. "Hi dear! I'm adding plumbing to your resume of impressive skills!"

E Shows Off a Little WT
So I pick E up from his play date at Max's house. They had been playing outside and E's face was a little flushed. I'm driving down the road and he says, "Mommy. This shirt is too hot!" I told him that as soon as we got home he could put on another shirt. Well, apparently, he decided not to wait. At the next stoplight I looked in the rear view mirror and had to do a double-take. There he was, chilling in his car seat, with his shirt OFF! Not sure how he managed that with the seat belt on...but it was oh so cute and oh so funny!

My "I Did It" List
Since family home evening was such a dismal failure, I was starting to feel a bit grumpy about my whole day. Then I remembered that up until that point it had actually been a really happy, productive and successful day. So I think I'll write an "I Did it"* list for today, to help me keep the family night fiasco in perspective.

My I did it List
1. I did pilates and lifted weights while watching the Today show.
2. I washed the sheets on our bed and remade the bed--the hardest part!
3. I resisted McDonald's french fries.
4. I gave up going to the gym to watch Matthew for Marcy. (Of course, this was an easy choice when she explained that she was taking Sofia for her 3rd blood test to try to get an answer for Sofia's bruising on her arms, legs and back. What a blessing that by the time she came to pick up Matthew, Marcy found out that the blood test was negative for lukemia and that she is one of 2% of children who have an adverse reaction to the MMR vaccine. Her platelet count is low and they will retest in 3 months.)
5. I made 2 lasagnes and gave one to Marcy for their dinner.
6. I babysat Tommy and Benjamin for Nancy.
7. I finished filing the kids old school projects--a project I started last fall!
8. I sat outside to get a little sun and Vitamin K.
9. I helped Syd with spelling and read a Scooby Doo and an Arthur book with her.
10. I tucked Syd and E in bed and sang them a good-night song.
*The I Did it List is something I started writing in my planner this month. I always write my To Do List and it's so discouraging when I don't get to cross off as many of those tasks as I would like to. It's not like I sit around watching soaps all day. Most days I am busy doing something from 6:30 am to 8:30 pm, so I decided to chronicle a few of those things. You would be surprised how fulfilling it is to write down what you have accomplished and then put a nice check by it--just for fun!

Jimmer Time
Jimmer Fredette and the Sacramento Kings were in town last night to take on the Washington Wizards. Dan was able to get the Ernst and Young box at the Verizon Center and we went down to the game with a group of friends from the ward. The game wasn't very exciting--both teams have losing records, but the kids were happy to be there. Any sporting event is more fun when it's live!
Logan made a poster and hung it in front of the box seats. It said "UNFREDETTEABLE". He couldn't figure out why the Wizards cam never showed him and his friends. I explained that it may be because he has a poster for a player on the opposing team. I'm sure Jimmer's team is used to his "mormon"-support-squad at any away game, but I think the Wizards were totally befuddled. Who is this guy and how did he get all of these fans?
Luckily, Jimmer got some playing time and we got to see him score 8 points.
Robert, Adam, and Logan ate their way through the game--hot dogs, chips, sprite, pretzels and pop corn. Oh yum!
The female contingent: Stephanie Mueller, Jenna Little and Laurie Ford.
Logan hangs his sign for Jimmer.
Kurt and Dan strike a pose.
John Candland is apparently enjoying the game--Matt Little--not so much!
Mikelle and Morgan felt seriously outnumbered by all of the boys.
Here we are: Dan, me, Mikelle and Logan.

Farewell to Downton Abbey
I watched the finale of Downton Abbey last night with mixed feelings. Of course, I was ecstatic to see Sir Richard get the boot and giddy with joy that Matthew and Mary finally admitted they belonged together. But oh, I was so sad that there weren't going to be any more episodes! What will I look forward to on Sunday evenings from now on?
Oh happy day! After just 2 seconds on google, I see that they are already working on Season 3! So the better question seems to be will there be a season 4?
“Sufficient unto the day,” Downton Abbey creator Fellowes tells the Times, quoting biblically. “I feel that one can’t really think much beyond that. Although I agree, I do not think it should just go on and on forever.”
Many of us Masterpiece Classics fans would strongly disagree. Surely the story line could go on to include Princess Di and then Kate Middleton. We already know that Helen Mirren (that’s “Dame Helen Mirren” to those of us whose ancestry was definitely “below stairs”) could play a terrific Elizabeth II.

Well said, Mr. Knickerbocker! You can add my name to the petition of those who would be happy to see Downton Abbey go on indefinitely!
Alas, back to my mourning that Season 2 has come to an end. My face is somber and my throat catches as I bid Farewell to Daisy the kitchen maid....
Farewell to Matthew with the dreamy blue eyes and that fabulous blonde hair...
Farewell to the evil and cranky Sir Richard...
Farewell to that slippery Thomas-maybe you can get locked in a shed before the filming of Season 3...
Farewell to poor Edith-may you find true love soon
Farewell to Mary-you certainly don't deserve Matthew but are lucky to find love that is blind to past faults
Farewell to sweet Anna-you can come and be my house maid anytime! (Just in case things don't work out at Downton Abbey.)
