Snow Day!
March 6, we woke up to find lots of wet snow falling. School was cancelled, so the kids took to the streets and to the hills--sledding, snow fort building, slipping, sliding and having a fun, wet time!

It was a group effort.
Hillside Percussion Night
The chorus and percussion performed a few numbers and then Mrs. Newell invited the families to come and try their hand at playing the African drums. Each group was given a different beat and cadence. Despite the group's inexperience, the combined effect was still impressive.
Piano Festival
Logan and Mikelle have been preparing since December to perform in the Fairfax Music Educator's piano festival. Logan played "Midnight Express" and "Sonatina" by Clementi. Mikelle played "Morning Song" by Gurlit and "Willows in the Wind". I am so proud of their many hours of practice and preparation. The intense preparation of memorizing songs--the dynamics, the rhythms, the intonation, the fingering--is so beneficial. They both worked extremely hard and performed very well! (Just to make life interesting, Logan's first all-star game was scheduled at the same time as his festival performance. He performed first in his group, then Dan drove him to his game. He arrived by half-time and his team won their first of four games that weekend!)
All-Star Basketball
Logan was selected to play on the all-star basketball team for 5th graders. He played with Coach Flynn and Coach Haufller and his team went on to win the March Madness All-Star tournament. AWESOME WORK TEAM!
St. Paddy's Day
Here's E modeling the shamrock hat he made at preschool.
Fine Arts Night
In conjunction with March being Music in the school's month, Eagle Ridge hosts a fine arts night every year. The orchestra, band, and different choral groups perform and art work is displayed in the halls. Students even serve hor'duervs as the crowd moves from room to room.
Logan's percussion group started off the night with a performance of "Sow It On the Mountain". Mrs. Newell was in Denver with a new grandbaby, so she asked me and a few moms to help out. It took 4 of us to do her job, but the kids were troopers and performed well!
Mikelle performed with the 8th grade chorus and with her select choir, Cantare. Kudos on her great performance!
